about flannelfy
A fan site for people who want to know what Anthony Fantano would make of their record collection.
flannelfy does two things. It takes your top albums from last.fm, or the albums in a Spotify data export, finds the ones Anthony Fantano has scored on The Needle Drop, and averages his scores into your Fantano score. And it keeps every one of those scores browsable: 3,169 albums from 1,617 artists, with a page for each score, each artist and each album. The name is a nod to the flannel shirt.
The original site
flannelfy.net first ran from 2022 to 2025 as a small tool by Ray Bartlett. Its code is on GitHub at github.com/raymbartlett/flannelfynet, licensed under the GPL-3.0. The site went quiet at the end of 2025. It was rebuilt in 2026 from the list of scores it had published; the rebuild is new code and shares none of the original's, but the idea, the verdicts (“light 6”, “decent 6”, “strong 6”) and the /all_scores page are all his.
Where the data comes from
The scores are Anthony Fantano's published album ratings, as archived from the original site, with new reviews added by hand. Cover art, release years, genres and Apple Music links come from Apple's public catalogue where we could match the album; everything else gets a plaid tile. The FAQ explains how matching works and why an album might be missing.
Not affiliated
flannelfy is a fan project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Anthony Fantano or The Needle Drop. Scores are Fantano's published album ratings. Go watch the reviews: every album page links to a YouTube search for its review.
