What do light, decent and strong mean?

They say where your average sits inside its whole number, the way the original flannelfy did. From .00 to .32 is light, .33 to .65 is decent, and .66 to .99 is strong. So 6.20 is a light 6, 6.50 a decent 6 and 6.80 a strong 6. An average of exactly 10.00 is simply a 10.

What is a “Fantano score” on this site?

Your Fantano score is the average of the scores Anthony Fantano gave the albums you listen to. We take your top albums from last.fm or your Spotify export, find the ones he has scored, and average those scores. It says how much he liked your music, not how good your taste is.

How does the matching work?

We compare artist and album names after tidying both up: capital letters, accents, “&” versus “and”, apostrophes and full stops, and edition labels such as “Deluxe”, “2011 Remaster” or “(Taylor's Version)” are ignored. If the names still don't line up exactly, a spelling by the same artist that is at least 85% the same still counts. A title is never matched across artists, and “Vol. 1” never matches “Vol. 2”. Each scored album counts once, however many copies of it you have.

Why is one of my albums missing?

• He hasn't scored it, or not yet on our list. The list has 3,169 albums and new reviews are added by hand, so the newest may lag a little.
• The names differ too much, for example a very different title on your streaming service, or an album credited to “Various Artists”.
• It wasn't in what we read. A last.fm lookup uses your top 200 albums for the period you pick. A Spotify streaming history keeps your top 300 albums by listening time, plus every album saved in your library.

How do I get my Spotify data export?

1. Go to spotify.com/account/privacy and log in.
2. Under “Download your data”, tick Account data. It includes YourLibrary.json, the albums you've saved. Extended streaming history works too, and is better if you stream more than you save.
3. Confirm the request from the email Spotify sends you.
4. Wait for Spotify's email. Spotify prepares the download and emails you a link when it's ready. It usually takes a few days; the extended streaming history takes longer.
5. Download the ZIP and drop it on the Spotify tab on the homepage. No need to unzip it.

The file is read on your device to find album names; we don't upload or keep it.

They are Anthony Fantano's published album ratings, as archived from the original flannelfy.net: a December 2025 snapshot of 3,171 listings, which comes to 3,169 albums once duplicate listings are merged. New reviews are added by hand. Cover art, release years and Apple Music links come from Apple's public catalogue where we could match the album. More about the site.
